What is Nova Scotia Learner’s License Test?
The Nova Scotia learner’s license test is a written knowledge test that all driver’s license aspirants must pass to obtain a Learner’s Licence (class 7). This driver’s knowledge test assesses your understanding of driving rules and road sign recognition.
Nova Scotia Learner’s Permit Test Format
The Nova Scotia driver knowledge test is based on the Driver’s Handbook and consists of two parts.
- Rules of the Road Test: 20 questions
- Road Sign Recognition Test: 20 questions
Passing Score Requirement
The passing score required for the Nova Scotia driver’s knowledge test is 80%. You must answer 16 questions correctly for each section which means 32 answers correctly in total.

If You Pass
If you pass the Nova Scotia driver’s knowledge test, then you can proceed to take the vision test to get your learner’s license successfully.
If You Fail

Nova Scotia Driving License Categories with Age Criteria
Light vehicle license – The minimum age is 16 years to get a Light vehicle license which allows you to drive motorbikes, cars, and other 4-wheelers like quadricycles and is valid for 5 years for Canadians and non-Canadians.
Motorcycle License – The minimum age is 17 years or older to drive motorcycle license which allows you to drive only motorbikes which is valid for 5 years for Canadians and non-Canadians.
Heavy Duty License – The required age is 21 years to get heavy duty license which allows to drive minibus, bus, mowing vehicles, etc., and is valid for 5 years for Canadians and non-Canadians.
